Help from any computer whiz's
I am looking at a base unit with the following specs
Intel Core 2 DUO X6800 Extreme Asus P5B i965 Mobo 2 GB DDR2 RAM Geforce 8800 GTS, 640 MB card
Now the specs I know are good, what's concerning me is the price, £999 which looks reaaaaally cheap, and you know what they say - if it's too good to be true it probably is.
Anybody know if this spec is genuinely do-able at this price or am I likely to get ripped off?

first of all is it a known make i.e. packard bell ....alien.....dell ....and so on ? or is it a machine that someone can build up for you?

Wiz, no it's not a known make their prices for a similar spec are way way more expensive.
It's from a small self build business, who only seem to put together a small number of machines at a time.
If had been Dell or one of them I would have bitten their hand off at that price

Do they have a website, Snowy? If so, it should make it easier to look around for people that may be wondering the same as you.
If they have no website, just the company name may help as well.

Well I got it, and after a delivery delay of three weeks -during which I was convinced I was going to be ripped off - it's turned up. Actually got it off E-Bay but didn't want to tell you as I was sure you would try and warn me off The guy had run out of X6800 so offered me a QX6700 for the same money (Core 2 Duo Quadro) So far it's running like a dream, just don't know how he's done it for the money. Similar specs are being sold for £2k plus! Anybody want a link to his current offers let me know

Going great Wiz, not got round to installing any games yet, still playing round running benchmark programs to convince myself it really is the spec it's supposed to be.
Greatest difference I've noticed so far it the ability to genuinely multi- task. I do a fair bit of video conversion and my previous PC would grind to a halt as far as doing anything else at the same time was concerned. This one not only converts much much faster but I can carry on doing lots of other stuff at the same time.
The Mobo also comes with software that allows umpteen overclocking adjustments. I played around with that for a bit, but then realised I needed to wake up and accept that the standard spec is far faster than anything I need it for so why mess about
